OCTOBER 2024
Find out what’s been happening, and what’s coming up next!
You can always view our Full Calendar of events in the church center app, or on the wc.church Homepage! We also have a Facebook Group called ‘Family Room’ where everyone is free to share and communicate.
In October we begin a new sermon series: The Awe OF God
Several of our small groups will also be following along throughout this study.
The series will be based loosely on the book of the same title by John Bevere.
In The Awe of God, John Bevere invites you to take a fresh look at what it means to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. This healthy, holy, and largely forgotten virtue is the uncommon path to a more fulfilled and fruitful spiritual life. In this book you will see why godly fear is the foundation of wisdom, understanding, knowledge and much more… If you look at the men and women in Scripture, the ones who lived and finish well all have one thing in common: they are marked by holy fear.
If you are interested in following along with the book, you can purchase it here.
Open small groups following along with the series include:
Berti Home Group - Sundays at 5:30pm - Kellogg
Men’s Ministry Group & Women’s Ministry Group - Tuesdays at 6pm - Smelterville (Childcare Provided)
Lemieux Home Group - Wednesdays at 5:30pm - Silverton
Haviland Home Group - Wednesdays at 5:30pm - Pinehurst
SERVING OPPORTUNITY
Light The Way Food Bank urgently needs volunteers to help serve our community every Tuesday. We're short on help and need people who can lift boxes of food to assist with unloading deliveries, sorting and boxing items, and distributing the food to families from 3:00 to 4:30 PM. Even just a couple of hours of your time, whether in the morning or afternoon, would be a huge help! Our community is relying on us, and we can’t do it without more hands. Please consider joining us and making a real difference! If you are interested, please call or email the church office!
Encounter youth group is our weekly group for youth from 6th through 12th grade, focusing on encountering God and each other! We recently relaunched after taking the second half of the summer off, and we are taking a new approach to learning about God’s word. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Pie-in-the-Face fundraiser! We raised over $1000 that will go towards sending kids to Summer Camp this year that could not otherwise afford it!
This year we will be reading through the Gospel of Luke, The Acts of the Apostles, and Paul’s letter to the Romans.
We chose these books, because the Gospel of Luke teaches us who Jesus was and what He did, The Acts of the Apostles is a continuation of the story and shows us how the early church spread and functioned after Jesus ascended, and they were written to be a continuous narrative, by the same author. Paul’s letter to the Romans is an incredible look into how we, as Christians, are to live in a fallen society, and how we can put the things Jesus taught into practice!
As we read through these books together, we are keeping notebooks with all of our questions and answers, along with things we find interesting along the way. This is setting our students up for a lifetime of reading the scriptures, an understanding of how to effectively study them, and a way to record and reflect on the things God is speaking to us through His word. Each week we read, study, and share our thoughts and questions, and challenge each other with the things we are learning!
This wouldn’t be youth group without some games though, and we always open with a board or card game. We are always on the lookout for new and fun games to share, so feel free to reach out to Ed or Ashley with any suggestions! As we keep teaching and sharing, our goal is always to encounter God more, so we can share him with those we encounter daily!
Join us on Sunday, October 13th for the Day of Atonement, known as Yom Kippur as we remember how God forgave the sins of the Israelites, and our High Priest, Jesus, forever atones for our sins. This is a pre-fast meal, and it will be held under the awning after service! The food is provided by Braided Bread Ministries!
Join us on Sunday, October 20th for the Feast of Tabernacles, known as Sukkot!
Rejoice before the Lord with choice fruit, palm fronds, leafy branches, and willows! Join us for a potluck and explore the booth (Sukkot) as we remember that God dwells within His people today through His Holy Spirit! Bring a dish to share, but if you are unable to please still come!
Each month there is a new biblical theme our WC Kids explore in a fun way!
If you have a child in Kid’s Church, help them to memorize this verse throughout the month! If you don’t have a kid in WC Kids, then join us in praying that God’s Word will be written on the hearts of our children, and that they will desire to glorify God through their compassion towards others!
Serving in Kids Ministry can be as simple as coming to the service once a month sitting with the kids and helping them with the activities. You don’t need any special skills, and you don’t have to teach! If you are interested, then click the button above!
