Kids Outdoor Zone In the Silver Valley, North Idaho

this is a boys ministry that is being run by local men who have a passion for the outdoors, and a desire to see boys become Godly men.

The Kids Outdoor Zone Adventure Ministry is sponsored by the Silver Valley Worship Center.  Our group consists of fathers and other men from the local area who have seen the systemic issues that our valley faces with fatherless boys and want to impact our local society in a way that will give positive outcomes to families in the area.  As leaders, we have either come from or seen directly the impacts of not having fathers in the home can bring into a boy’s life, and as such, want to drive a spirit of mentorship into the lives of those boys out there that desperately are seeking that male role model.

What are we about?

Kids Outdoor Zone Adventure Ministry is about doing hard things. We are teaching boys about how to be leaders, have integrity and see all situations that arise in their lives through to the end, regardless of how hard they are. Beyond that, we are teaching boys essential outdoor skills and giving them a better understanding of things that exist in the real world, outside of their video games and online lives. We are building a brotherhood, empowering boys to have compassion and love for one another and showing them how to support one another through all of life’s trials. Finally, we are raising these boys to be Godly men, showing them what a Godly man is and giving them the opportunities and tools to know how to lead families in the ways God intended. Boys will learn how to spend time with God alone, and how to look at situations and their world from God's eyes and how they can shape the world around them.

When Do we meet?

KOZ meets one Saturday a month, below we have laid out our 2023 schedule. Typically we will meet the 3rd Saturday in the month, however, that is subject to change depending on holidays, and other task scheduling restrictions. Sometimes the Saturday will change, for instance in June, due to county schedules. June 10th is Free Fishing Day and June happens to be our month of fishing. Depending on activities, we may also schedule days outside of a Saturday for extra curricular activities, like camping or hunting trips. Details surrounding those will be posted and communicated when those dates get closer.

  • Boys learn about maps and GPS, Compasses, trails, terrain, contours, trail markers and the natural mountains, rivers and lakes in our area. The boys will learn to use knives to make their own hiking sticks. If the boys have their own pocket knives, bring them, if not, we will provide! We will teach the boys how to see God's great creation through His eyes and how to properly respect it.

    Psalms 95:4-5 In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

  • The boys will learn about fishing, gear, bait, and boats. We are also going to build fish traps, nets, and trout lines. We may visit fish farms but definitely will do some fishing since it’s Free Fishing Day. If boys have fishing poles, bring them, if not we will provide them! The boys will learn about how God is great, how God is good, and how to give God praise for the bounties He gives us.

    Philippians 4:8 Excellent and Worthy of Praise. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

  • The number one purpose here is firearm safety. There are many types of firearms and differences in each with shotgun, rifle, pistol and black powder. We will teach the boys about shooting sports in 4-H or college teams. Boys will use AirSoft guns, and real guns during this time. If boys have airsoft or BB guns bring them, if not we will provide them. This month we will teach the boys about God's faithfulness, especially in the face of temptation, and how they can rely on Him when things are tough or they feel alone to provide for them.

    Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide a way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

  • The boys will build lasting memories learning how to camp. We will do some fishing and boating and maybe even some swimming on this trip. We may ride some horses, learn to cook on campfires, and apply some of the skills we've already learned over the course of the weekend. If boys have tents and sleeping bags, bring them, if not we will supply them. We will teach the boys about how God is always with us, even in the wilderness and he will never abandon us.

    Numbers 10:31 Then he said, “Please do not leave us, in as much as you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will be as eyes for us.

    The boys will also learn about water conservation, we will take some time to clean up one of our local water spots and also take the time to have some fun and swim. Don't know how to swim? We will take some time to make progress on that. If you have life jackets, bring them, if not we can provide them. This month we will set up baptisms if we have any boys interested in being baptized. We will invite families to attend and either way, we will teach boys the importance of baptism as an outward display of you giving your life to Jesus.

  • Blinds and Fowl Hunting

  • Boys will learn the basic elements of bows. There are safety rules and lessons to learn as well. Then there is hunting with a bow. We will not only learn how to shoot with a bow but also how to properly shoot game with a bow. If boys have bows, bring them, if not we will provide them. God is always by your side, and the boys will learn how to talk to Him, how to listen to Him and how to take direction from Him.

    Genesis 21:20 And God was with the boy, and he grew up. He lived in the wilderness and became an expert with the bow.

  • A boy needs to understand that a hunter hunts for food. This is hunting month at KOZ. This month we are doing an overnight hunting/camping trip where we will utilize all the skills we've learned so far and we will be out in the woods teaching the boys how to track and hunt a deer. With any luck, we'll even bring one home. If boys have tents, sleeping bags, knives, or airsoft rifles bring them. If not, we will provide them. **NOTE - For boys old enough to hunt and that have undergone Hunters Safety, we will work with them individually on getting licenses and meeting all state regulations. Our KOZ director is a certified hunter’s safety instructor, so chances are if they have taken hunters safety, it was with our leader Jerry. Since it's Hunting month, the boys will learn about patience, the stillness of the heart, and the quietness of the mind. All key traits in seeking animals, but more importantly, key traits in seeking God.

  • The KOZ boys are given so much each month. This month they give back. We will find a big project to undertake so the boys can help folks in need. We will be teaching the boys about service to their community and teaching them how to use tools and do practical things. This can range from building, repairing or maintaining people’s houses, vehicles, or other community projects during the season of giving. We will teach the boys about humility. The boys will be instilled with the recognition they need from God our Father, and not to seek outward recognition of this world but rather know their worth based on God's value, not the world’s.

    Matthew 6:1-4 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Where Do we meet?

The boys will meet at the KOZ HQ, which is at 2 Luoma Street in Kingston (See Map). Here the boys will start the day by raising the American and KOZ flag and doing the pledge of allegiance. We will gear them up for the day's adventure and hop on the bus to go out for the day's mission.

Once the day's mission is over, we will return to the KOZ HQ where the boys will start a fire themselves and cook lunch. We will receive God's word and spend our time alone with God before closing out the day by lowering our flags and discussing the next meeting's events.

These statistics mean that children from a fatherless home are:

5 times more likely to commit suicide

32 times more likely to run away

20 times more likely to have behavioral disorders

9 times more likely to drop out of high school

10 times more likely to abuse chemical substances

These numbers are alarming and are at emergency levels. We pray through the mentorship of KOZ we can begin to change these numbers and give boys everything necessary to set them up for success. They will learn how to have Integrity, Steadfastness, Honesty, Humility, and Love.

HOW DO I SIGN MY BOY UP?

It is NEVER too late to sign the boys in your life up for KOZ. We are always accepting new boys. You can bring them to the next KOZ meeting in the schedule above and we can register them right there, or you can click the button below and download the registration form and bring it with them to the next mission day scheduled. Registration is always FREE and KOZ will provide any/all equipment the boys will ever need. The boys are always welcome to bring their own equipment if they have it, but it is not required.
